Hawai‘i Wing Support Kaneohe Bay Air Show 2022

Kaneohe, Hawai’i – The Hawai’i Civil Air Patrol Wing spent the weekend of August 12 – 14, 2022, increasing our community presence during the Kaneohe Bay Air Show at Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i. The airshow marked the return of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels after a seven-year hiatus of shows in Hawai‘i.

The Air Show attracted over 103,000 guests over three days and increased exposure of Civil Air Patrol and itʻs mission through the Hawai‘i Wing Civil Air Patrol’s recruitment efforts. A total of 72 cadets and 24 senior members from Maui, Maryknoll, Saint Louis, Hickam, and Wheeler squadrons, volunteered and assisted in recruitment, a static display of the Hawai‘i Wing Civil Air Patrol Cessna 182 aircraft, and discussions with patrons about Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services.

Our presence attracted new members of both potential cadets and senior members in learning how they, too, could join a local squadron and volunteer to serve.

When cadets and senior members werenʻt busy volunteering, Hawai’i Wing members enjoyed the beautiful island weather, exploring various vendors, aircraft, and displays at the airshow.  They also enjoyed watching from the VIP stands the U.S. Navy Blue Angels acrobatic team, U.S. Air Forceʻs F-22 Raptor, and F-16 demonstration team, and C-17 Globemaster perform high-and-slow speed passes, opposition passes, loops, vertical climbs, and simulated assault demonstrations.

While Hawai‘i Wing Civil Air Patrol members enjoyed the airshow and provided a great deal of information to the community, there was a moment when an attentive cadet applied his training to help a distressed patron.  Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Maxwell Wilkens from Maryknoll Cadet Squadron was approached by an elderly woman who was in medical distress.  Cadet Wilkens assisted her by immediately contacting event emergency services where the local first aid team took immediate action to assist the woman.

Hawai‘i Wing Cadets and Senior members did an amazing job in the coordination, execution, and representation of Hawaii Wing Civil Air Patrol in engaging with our local community.
