Hawai‘i Wing Civil Air Patrol has new leadership

Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawai’i – Col. Stacy Haruguchi assumed command and responsibility of the Hawai‘i Wing Civil Air Patrol during the annual Wing conference, awards banquet, and change of command ceremony at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, surrounded by Cadets, Senior Members, Families, and distinguished visitors, September 10, 2022.

Col. Chantal Lonergan partook in her last assignment as the Hawai‘i Wing Commander lending her knowledge, skills, and encouragement during the annual wing conference. As she spoke to cadets that morning, she stated, “You are going to go out and find someone, maybe it’s a new cadet, maybe it’s a cadet who’s been around for a while but doesn’t quite yet have all their gear together, and you are going to help them. You are going to carry the message of your wing leadership back to your squadrons and you're going to give back to someone else.” She also awarded and recognized cadets and senior members later that evening at the Pacific Aviation Museum for their outstanding service to the Hawai‘i Wing Civil Air Patrol before relinquishing command and responsibility to Col. Stacy Haruguchi.

Col. Stacy Haruguchi a decorated U.S. Air Force retired Lt. Col. has served in various capacities since 2015 with the Hawai‘i Wing Civil Air Patrol from emergency services to Chief of Staff. He also brings extensive experience as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, a former USAF F-15E weapons systems officer, a training instructor, and a senior tactical systems analyst.  Col Haruguchi wrote in his welcoming message, “I am deeply honored to have been chosen to lead the Hawai’i Wing .” he also wrote, “I also want to ensure the Hawai’i Wing is well prepared to support our local community by supporting the Counties and State with timely disaster warnings, assessments, and search and rescue capabilities.”

Also, in attendance National Vice-Commander Brig. Gen. Regena Aye graciously shared her experience as well as guidance to both Cadets and Senior members on how they can continue to support the Civil Air Patrol's mission and goals locally. In an interview on KITV 4 news, she stated, “mentoring is important it makes a difference, it saves lives, it shapes lives, and you have to see it to be it.”

The Hawai’i Wing Civil Air Patrol in the next four years will continue its three missions of Cadet Programs, Aerospace Science, and Emergency Services by increasing its visibility within the State, networking and reestablishing community resource connections, and engaging the community with various events and training.
