Maryknoll Cadet Squadron CIVIL AIR PATROL

PCR-HI-030

U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY UNIT

Purpose: To establish and maintain compliance with CAP heraldic standards for unit emblems as established in CAPR 110-3, Civil Air Patrol Heraldry Program.

Symbolism:

The Maryknoll Cadet Squadron emblem contains the following symbolism:

Maryknoll:

The Maryknoll Cadet Squadron patch colors include maroon, gold, navy blue, and white.

The symbols on the patch include the wings, the civil air patrol logo, and the M. The wings pay heritage to our past squadron patch. They also show that much of what we know about aerospace education came from learning how birds fly and mimicking that to airplane wings. The civil air patrol logo pays homage to the Civil Air Patrol's old logo and our old squadron patch. The M represents Maryknoll Squadrons long history and how far Maryknoll Squadron has come.

Noblesse Oblige means to whom much is given much is expected. This shows that we are a volunteer organization committed to helping and giving back to the community. It is also Maryknoll’ motto.

Civil Air Patrol Roundel: The shield displays the roundel used during World War II by the Civil Air Patrol, to represent the organization. This roundel was also on the original Hawaiʻi Wing patch and is a historical tie. Its placement within a red field in the upper right corner of the shield provides aesthetic balance in the shield with the other symbols.

Coloration:

The emblem comprises six colors, and all are matched to the Civil Air Patrol colors per CAPR 900-2.  Their meanings on the emblem are:

  • Maroon - symbolizes selfless sacrifice as well as servant leadership. Good leaders constantly sacrifice their time and energy to better the squadron.

  • Air Force Yellow - symbolizes the glory of God; Maryknoll is a catholic school and is devoted to God and his teachings.

  • Navy blue – symbolizes Civil Air Patrol which is the auxiliary of the Air Force.

  • White - represents purity, goodness, hope, and perfection to promote mindedness and reflection in how we continue to promote the good we do for our members and our community.

  • Scarlet Red- represents the color of passion and energy, which draws strength to the attention, motivation, courage, and desire that embodies our core values of integrity, volunteer service, excellence, and respect.

Civil Air Patrol Roundel:

The shield displays the roundel used during World War II by Civil Air Patrol, to represent the organization. This roundel was also on the Maryknoll Cadet Squadron patch and serves as a historical tie. It’s placement under the M and on the wings within a red field of the shield provides aesthetic balance in the shield with the other symbols.
