Encampment Staff Highlight: C/Capt Riku Iwai-King, 9th Cadet Training Squadron Executive Officer

April 14, 2020

After being in the Civil Air Patrol program for about 3 years, I am taking part in my first encampment as Cadre. This opportunity is one I have been looking forward to for a long time. Progressing through the Civil Air Patrol program has been the guiding light for me to become a leader. I joined Civil Air Patrol to fly because that's what it was advertised to me as, but there are much greater things that are provided through the cadet program. In my opinion, the greatest opportunity provided through the Civil Air Patrol program is the leadership opportunities. I have had the privilege of serving as the HI-077 Saint Louis Composite Squadron's flight Sergeant, First Sergeant, Public Affairs NCO, Flight Commander, and Public Affairs Officer, and I am currently serving in the role of the Cadet Commander. Furthermore, I have gained valuable leadership skills from the Cadet Officer Basic Course, a Region Cadet Leadership School held by California Wing this past winter. I look forward to serving at this year's encampment as the Executive Officer, 9th Cadet Training Squadron, furthering my leadership skills while meeting outstanding cadets from throughout the wing. I am currently a junior at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama. Passionate about sports, I play soccer and baseball for my school teams. Moreover, I am an avid bodyboarder. You can catch me at Sandys or Makapu'u any weekend. My ultimate goal, as is many in Civil Air Patrol, is to become a pilot.
